Peace in the storm

I discovered that we experience anxiety before a breakthrough, an exam, or a check-up. As we approach that God-given yearning that frightens us, an unseen fist clenches in our stomach.

How many nights did we go without sleeping before a test, a dental visit, or another significant event? Our minds create awful scenarios and tell us the most incredible things that could happen. The truth is that almost none of these thoughts materialize. It’s all in our minds.

And oh, the sense of achievement thereafter! I can’t remember a time in my life when God’s promises came true and I didn’t rejoice.

It was after finishing the most dreadful assessments in high school with good results, after being promoted, after passing the driver’s license exam, and so on. Every time, I felt the holy spirit dancing in delight with me.

The frightening journey yields amazing rewards

Before that? Heaven could break loose. We’re scared and we have no idea what we’re doing, but God is with us every step of the way. He’s with us even when we’ve taken the wrong route, estimating the approximate distance to our dream.

God is so wonderful that He always provides the necessary means and people to help us along the way. He’s taken care of aspects we hadn’t even considered and has always led us in the correct direction. I wish we could see it more often, especially when confronted with unexpected difficulties or when the wait seems eternal.

Consider the tree God placed before Zacchaeus could climb and communicate with Jesus. He was there when Peter plunged out of the boat into the storming sea to meet him and held his hands while he focused intently on the waves. There are so many great examples.

Ending thoughts

I wish we could pause to consider what God can do for us. Stop grasping the steering wheel of life so firmly and allow him to drive instead. Consider this: Has God ever broken any of His promises?

He was kind and patient, allowing us to go our own way even though He knew it wasn’t our best choice. And yet, He trusted us, the essence that the Almighty Father placed in us, and awaited our awakening to the glorious plan God created before our time. It’s time to pull ourselves together and trust that Jesus Christ will deliver us, as He’s always done.

My message today is to stop holding so tightly, being frightened, and allow yourself to be guided. Don’t spend your entire life staring in the rearview mirror; have trust, God has fresh people and exciting adventures in store for you. He has the wonderful friends you’ve been hoping for, the right person, the house of your dreams, and the promotion and success you deserve. Accept them and learn to look up, child. God is on your side.
